Theresa Carrie Dixon was born August 4, 1986 at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, MD to Billy Roy Dixon and Theresa Catherine Poe Dixon (Snookie). After a lifelong struggle with muscular dystrophy, Theresa passed at the age of 33 years old on February 14, 2021.
Through all the challenges that muscular dystrophy brought to her physically, Theresa maintained a positive outlook on life. She repeatedly faced each challenge with determination and a smile. Her motto through life was “I am not handicapped or disabled, I have challenges.” She faced those challenges head on daily. One of the hurdles that Theresa faced was delivered to her at the young age of twelve years old. Doctors informed her and her family that the type of muscular dystrophy she was diagnosed with carried a life expectancy not exceeding thirteen years. Theresa accepted this challenge and defeated it to bless us with her presence for another twenty one years. This alone should give anyone who did not have the honor of knowing her, a vision of the degree of strength, faith and courage she had.
God has a purpose for each and every one of us and we each have a gift. Theresa found her purpose early in life and delivered her gift unknowingly. Theresa taught everyone she touched in life how to love unconditionally and wholeheartedly. She delivered a smiling face and a warm touch to everyone she encountered and accepted every soul as an addition to her family. Theresa never met a stranger and never left a room without touching the hearts of everyone in it. With our loss, heaven has gained a beautiful soul.
Theresa was preceded in death by her father, Billy Roy Dixon; maternal grandfather, Milton Eugene Poe; maternal grandmother, Theresa Catherine Poe; paternal grandfather, Roy Andy Dixon; and paternal grandmother Annie Carrie Dixon.
