Phyllis Walker Obituary

On April 1st, 2021, Phyllis D. Walker, 87, passed away. Cherished daughter of the late Edward F. Walker, Sr. and Dorothy C. Walker (nee French); dear sister of Edward F. Walker, Jr. and James Walker; loving aunt of Pamela Walker McGraw, Kathleen Walker White, and Eric Walker; caring cousin of Carolyn Hubbard, Diane Barrett, and Michael Lewis; also survived by other loving family and friends

Phyllis grew up in Bremerton, Washington on the Hood Canal. Her love of softball grew from backyard play on into high school and then to league ball  with the professional Green Jackets. She maintained this pride and passion as she developed her Federal Government career in the Defense Department by day and proudly playing fast pitch softball in the evenings in Maryland playing with the Maryland Jets. She was a professional fast pitch softball pitcher who was voted MVP and was inducted into the Maryland fast pitch softball hall of fame. She was a pioneer among working and playing women.

Phyllis was the most kind and generous being. She had a special love in her heart for animals. She was an avid supporter of the “Rescue Westie” organizations in Maryland and Delaware. She participated for many years with “Meals on Wheels”, visiting homebound residents who saw her as their shinning star.

Phyllis enjoyed her retirement years again living on the water at Bayview Estates in Selbyville, Delaware, where she enjoyed crab feasts with family and friends, walks on the boardwalks eating French fries, crabcakes, and Dumser’s ice cream.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Phyllis’ life with a graveside service at Moreland Memorial Park on Saturday, April 3rd, 2021 at 1PM.

Phyllis will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Phyllis’ name at either the Westie Rescue at https://westierescue.stardonor.com/ or Meals on Wheels at https://www.mealsonwheelsmd.org/donate-online/
