Paul (Bill) Englar Jr. Obituary

Paul William (Bill) Englar Jr. went into God’s care on July 18, 2023.

He was born at home July 16, 1931, to the late Anna and Paul Englar. For high school he attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute on North Ave, and then at age 17, entered the Navy in 1948. He served six years and was Honorably Discharged.  He then received training and became a Certified Optician. He worked at several optical shops over his lifetime.

He married Mary Burris from Rural Retreat, VA in 1959, and had a son, Paul W. Englar III in 1960. While he worked full-time in the optical business, he also managed his own part-time business (Tape-Ability Associates) in the 60’s and 70’s as a Recording Engineer. He also worked at Monumental Films and Henry Burman Recording Studios in Baltimore.

He spent most of his life living in Maryland, but spent 10 years in Rural Retreat VA, in his wife’s hometown, and the Town of Wytheville VA.  While living in Virginia he worked as an optician in Bluefield WV, school bus driver, and a semi-truck driver transporting/delivering furniture for Hickory Furniture Co. in North Carolina.  When he moved back to Maryland, he drove a coach for Rohrbaugh Coach Co., and as a school bus driver again for Harford County Public Schools until his retirement.

He loved music, singing, recording, golfing, outdoor activities, especially Croquet, games, and cards.

He is survived by his son, Paul W. Englar III and wife, Jane Owens; his niece, Barbara Scott; two granddaughters, Cara Middendorf (Chris Middendorf- Husband), and Brianna Englar; one grandson, Joshua Owens; two Great-grandchildren, Claire, and Penelope Middendorf. Lastly, his lifelong best-friend, Richard (Dick) Harrison of Venice Florida, who will be turning ninety-two, who was like a brother to Bill.  His two sisters, Anne Englar and Dorothy Scott, and Renea Jonas Englar (mother of Cara and Brianna) pre-deceased him.

A private service for the family will be held at Garrison Forest Veteran’s Cemetery, and a Memorial Service will be held in the future for all family and friends and will be announced separately.
