Michael Brian Henss

September 30, 1956 ~ May 10, 2023 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Obituary

On May 10, 2023; Michael Brian Henss, 66, of Baltimore, cherished husband of Jean M. Henss (NEE Linder), beloved son of Marjorie Henss and the late Herman F. Henss, Jr., devoted father of Jason Michael Henss and his wife Jessica, Samantha Lynn Henss and Danielle Ann Henss, loving grandfather of Nicholas, Zoe and Dylan Henss, beloved brother of Dawn Henss. Also survived by numerous cousins and friends.

Michael Henss, better known as Mike or Dad grew up in his hometown of Baltimore Maryland where he met the love of his life Jean Henss. As a young boy he enjoyed playing baseball and going fishing and crabbing out on a boat. He told many stories about long boat trips with his father Herman F. Henss Jr. and his close cousin, Scott Francischetti. As he got older, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He always had a love for cars specifically hot rods and his 2002 Green Chevrolet Silverado.

Mike loved all types of sports and especially loved the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. He attended numerous Orioles games with his family throughout his life and just a few Ravens games. He was known for yelling at the television trying to coach the Ravens or express his excitement for touchdowns. Mike was on the Linway, American Legion, and Eastern Dart League for quite a few years and enjoyed celebrating by throwing dark parties at his house. He also enjoyed watching his daughters Samantha and Danielle play soccer. When they were younger, he would attend each game even despite the conflicting schedule with the Ravens. He often brought a small handheld radio to listen to the game. More recently he attended Danielle’s lacrosse games and for the remainder of his life never missed one of her college soccer games.

He shared his love for fishing and crabbing with his family. When his son, Jason, was younger, they went on fishing trips, and he often took his wife and daughters to Fort Smallwood. As his grandkids got older, he shared his love for fishing with them as well. He always was up for a good fishing day and made it a point to wake up at 5am and get to the pier.

Mike enjoyed summer and loved swimming in the pool. Every summer he would visit his mother, Marjorie Henss, and sister Dawn Henss at the eastern shore and go swimming at the yacht club. He enjoyed going to the beach with everyone to fly kites, fish, and play with the dogs. He also adventured to his cousins’ house and enjoyed time in the pool. At his old house he would wake up at 5am and start working on his pool to get it ready for everyone to swim in. On his lazy days he enjoyed doing puzzles and watching UFC and fishing shows. Every day he would watch FBI, COPS, Criminal Minds, etc with Jean. He loved movies such as Top Gun, Saving Private Ryan, Forest Gump, etc. He had a love for classic movies that he had watched over 100 times.

He was the man to call in every situation from putting out kitchen fires to catching bats in the house to killing bugs. He had a fascination with all buds no matter how big or small. He would catch them and investigate what they looked like. He identified them as a “Catty Wompus” and enjoyed scaring his sister and other family members with them. He would also investigate bugs as he was planting his garden. He loved Sunflowers, Elephant Ears, Canis, and Tomato Plants. Many people expected vegetables from him every year.

Mike’s favorite thing of all was spending time with his family and friends. He loved making a train garden as well as visiting train gardens during the holidays with his family. Mike had an enormous collection of holiday decorations and set them up for all holidays even winning best decorated house in Parkville. He especially enjoyed Sunday Dinners where the whole family would get together and eat. He also loved having family crab feasts for his birthday and throughout the summer growing up.

Mike would want to be remembered for being hardworking and dedicated and for the caring man he was. He would tell everyone to “be strong” and to think of the great memories and laughter they shared when they begin to miss him.
