LEROY CARL HOHNE – FOUNDER OF HOHNE POOLS & SPAS
Leroy Carl Hohne, who was the founder of HOHNE POOLS & SPAS, died on September 25th, 2021. The Timonium resident was 94 years old.
He was inducted into the United States Army in March 1945 serving in World War II and was stationed in Germany as part of the occupation forces; he was discharged as a Sargent in October 1946. After being discharged he worked in the construction business and started his own company in 1954 doing home improvements and new home construction. He soon acquired the franchise to install Buster Crabbe swimming pools. In 1972 after continued success, he opened his showroom and retail store at 9000 Harford Road in Parkville, Maryland, which led to more expansion. The company further expanded into the specialty Christmas business marketed as SANTA LAND. Again, further expansion in the retail division was made in casual and rattan furniture. More than 8000 swimming pool projects were installed by Hohne.
After serving on the Board of Directors of the National Spa & Pool Institute, he became president of the Chesapeake chapter of N.S.P.I. for one year. Mr. Hohne retired in 1992 and turned the presidency of the corporation over to his son Gary.
