Leonard "Len" Steg Obituary

Leonard W. Steg, known affectionately to all as Len, embarked on his final fishing trip across the celestial waters on February 4, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on September 28, 1944, Leonard's life was one grand, joyous adventure, filled with laughter, love, and the occasional fish tale that "somehow" grew with every telling.

Len's journey began as the spirited son of Leonard E. and Dorothy Steg (nee Schleicher), and though he outlived his parents and sisters, Jane Reichel, Marlene Berry, and Sandra Mohr, the stories they shared could fill volumes of family lore. His heart, however, truly belonged to his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Geraldine H. Steg (nee Stipek). Together, they navigated life's waters with grace, humor, and an unbreakable bond.

The proud patriarch of a lively crew, Leonard's legacy includes his children: Timothy (Janet) Steg, Tjark C. (Sharon) Steg, and Tracey L. (Bryant) Smith. His grandchildren, Ashley, Alaina, Kathryn, Michael, Justin, Brooke, and Tjark, were the sparkle in his eye, while his great-grandchildren, Kash, Kennedi, Karter, Owen, and Archer, were the extra bait in his tackle box.

An avid outdoorsman, Len's interests weren't limited to freshwater fishing. He was also a seasoned veteran of goose and deer hunting, a master of the waves with his boating escapades, and a crabbing connoisseur. His tales of the one that got away were as legendary as his ability to make even the most stoic of us crack a smile.

Len's life was a masterclass in not taking things too seriously, except when it came to his secret crabbing spots—those were on a need-to-know basis, and frankly, you didn't need to know. His humor was as infectious as his enthusiasm for the great outdoors, and he leaves behind a trail of laughter and memories that will echo through the trees and across the lakes he loved so much.

As we bid farewell to Len, let's honor his memory by casting a line, telling a joke, and remembering that life, much like fishing, isn't just about the catch—it's about the thrill of the chase, the stories you share, and the company you keep. Tight lines, Leonard, until we meet again.
