Geraldine L. (Houston) Rider

Geraldine Rider, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully on August 31, 2023, aged 87. She was born on August 6, 1936, and left an indelible mark on every life she touched.

Geraldine earned her master’s degree in education and poured her heart and soul into teaching as a beloved kindergarten teacher for over 30 years. She greatly affected the lives of countless students, who fondly remember her kindness and devotion.

She was a passionate traveler and often explored Europe and the United States with her late husband, William E. Rider Sr. Geraldine adored visiting national parks and cherished the countless memories created amidst the beauty of nature.

Geraldine's greatest joy was her family, which included her children, William E. Rider Jr (Debbie), Steven W. Rider (Dorothea), Joyce S. Rider (Sam), Gary A. Rider (Cheryl), and Dawn R. Watson (Michael); their 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother Gilbert Houston and his wife Betty Lou, her cousin Jackie Lymon, and her longtime friend, Shirley Shuttlewood.

Geraldine's legacy will live on through her love for her family and her profound influence on her students. Her passing is a deep loss and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate the life of Geraldine on September 5, 2023 from 3PM-5PM + 7PM- 9PM at Evan’s Life Celebration Home- 8800 Harford Rd. On Wednesday, September 6 the funeral will be held at 10AM, after the service Geraldine will be laid to rest at Parkwood Cemetery- 3310 Taylor Avenue.
