George Mickolite Obituary

On February 26, 2024, George Arthur Mickolite, 89, of Parkville, MD passed away.  George was the loving husband of Dolores Mickolite (nee Vitek); devoted father of Veronica “Ronnie” Mickolite and her spouse Gayle Sullivan and Stuart Mickolite and his wife Amy; grandfather of Jenna, Mark, Craig, and Marissa, great grandfather of Caden, Adalyn, Brooklyn and Hudson; brother of the late Arlene Heist. George is also survived by many loving family and friends.

George was a devoted husband and father and known to all as a good and kind man. Born in the coal region of Shenandoah, PA, he moved to Baltimore, MD with his parents and sister when he was a child. George was very proud to be a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute where he concentrated in engineering studies. Upon graduation, he began working as a draftsman for the Glenn L Martin Company in Middle River. This began a lifelong love of aviation and a career as a structural test engineer where he retired as part of the department management team at Lockheed Martin. He served proudly as a member of the Maryland National Guard where he distinguished himself as an exceptional marksman. He and his wife Dolores (Del) were married for over 68 years. They lived and raised their family for 45 years in Joppatowne. He was a longtime tennis player, a member of the men’s senior softball league, including playing in the Maryland Senior Olympics, was active in church and its thrift store ministry, as well as community recreation programs including coaching his daughter and son in local youth softball and baseball leagues. In 2009, George and Del moved to Oak Crest Senior Living in Parkville, MD. Aways walking “hand in hand”, they became active in their new neighborhood. He participated in the tennis program and bocce leagues, contributed to the Beans and Bread charitable program, and was a member of the church's audio-visual staff. Together they were “Oak Crest Ambassadors”, opening their home for prospective residents to tour their apartment, as well as regular participants of the Christmas Open House tours.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Scholar’s Fund (provides assistance with college expenses to eligible student employees). Checks should be made payable to Oak Crest, write The Scholar’s Fund in the “memo”. Mail to Oak Crest Philanthropy Office, 8820 Walther Blvd., Baltimore, MD 21234.
