George Hudson Obituary

George Stewart Hudson of Sparks Maryland, son of Harold Francis and Emma Frances Hudson, passed away on November 9, 2022 at the age of 87.

George was born in Wilmington, Delaware but grew up in Summit, New Jersey.  He graduated from Summit High School in 1952.  He then graduated from The University of Delaware in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  At Delaware, George met his wife to be Barbara Louise Pearce of Sparks, Maryland.  After commencing work with the DuPont Co. and a 6 month tour of active service in the US Army, they were married in 1958. 

George held a variety of positions in technical sales and marketing of plastics at DuPont during his 37 year career.  He, his wife, Bobbie, and a growing family of 4 sons, lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan; Wilmington, Delaware; and Woodstock, Connecticut.  George retired in 1993 and directed his time toward church, civic affairs and two, life-long hobbies – antique clocks and family genealogy.  In 1998, George and Bobbie moved to Delight Farm in Sparks, Maryland, Bobbie’s family home.   George was a 58 year member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors where he held several offices, volunteered time, wrote articles, and made presentations.  In 2015, George and Bobbie published a book on their family history.

George was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years and his two sisters, Ellen Hudson Bischoff and Lois Hudson Ballantine.  He is survived by his 4 sons and 4 daughters-in-law: Daniel and Mabeth Hudson of Sparks, Bruce and Lisa Hudson of Sparks, Wayne and Amanda Hudson of Sparks, and James and Susan Hudson of Bel Air.  George is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 granddaughters-in-law, 2 grandsons-in-law (Sarah, Tim & Hannah, and Will Hudson; Megan & Ryan Tilley,  Emily & Joe Parks, Ben & Nicole Hudson; Cole, Pearce and Scott Hudson; Matthew, Sean and Lindsey Hudson), 5 great-grandchildren (Kyle, Lucy, Peyton, Dean and Wesley) and Bobbie’s sister, Eleanor Pearce.  Services for family and George’s friends will be held on Delight Farm.
