George Lewis Ackerman, Jr., 75, of Bel Air, MD, passed away at his home on September 14, 2023.
Born in Baltimore on June 25, 1948, George was the son of the late George and Frances Ackerman. He was a 1967 graduate of Mergenthaler High School. A veteran of the Vietnam War, George served in the US Army from 1968-69. A welder by trade, he worked at Bethlehem Steel, Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Wally’s Shipyard in Cecil County, Hoppy’s Welding and retired from Middle River Aircraft Systems.
George was a member of St. Margaret Church. He was a fan of the Baltimore sports teams – the Colts, Ravens and Orioles. George was an avid and passionate golfer but will mainly be remembered as a great father. brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was well-liked by his many friends.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Dan Ackerman, and his wife Amy, his daughter Joyce Walstrom; his loving partner Jo Ann Eady; his cherished grandsons Andrew Ackerman and Jordan Walstrom; his great grandson Damon Walstrom; his brother Ken Ackerman and his wife Roxanna, his sisters Jane Gordon and her husband Tom Stipa, and Maureen Addlesburger and her husband Steve; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, whom he married in 1971 and who pased away in 2009.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate George's life at the Evans Life Celebration Home, 3 Newport Drive, Forest Hill, MD on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 12:00 Noon, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon. Burial will follow at Highview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association
