Edward Martin “Edd” Rutherford, Jr., 76, of Baltimore, Maryland passed away on March 15, 2023 in Baltimore after a battle with leukemia.
Edd was born in Baltimore in 1946. He graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and as a proud member of Alpha Sigma Mu, the Jesuit Honor Society. Edd dedicated his life to serving his country. A 6th generation serviceman, Edd served 2 years in Vietnam in the US Army, he was bestowed the Silver Star and Bronze Star for his valor and bravery under fire, and he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Edd spent an additional 18 years in the National Guard and 20 years as a Federal Contracting Officer for the Army Corps of Engineers and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Edd is survived by his wife Elaine, her daughter Chris, and his only son Sean, as well as his daughter-in-law Jessica, and loving grandson Roger. He is also survived by his cousin Cathy Hancock and her husband Bob and their children: Amy, Melanie, Kathleen, and William. He is also survived by his cousin Peggy Bitzer.
Edd is preceded in death by his mother Mary Cullen Edelson, her husband Milton Edelson, and his aunt and uncle Joan Bitzer and Dennis Cullen. Edd’s late father, Edward Rutherford Martin, Sr., moved to Texas many decades prior, and is survived by extended family in that State.
A visitation for Edward will be held at the family-owned Evans Life Celebration Home, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, MD 21234 on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 3 PM - 5PM and 7PM - 9PM. A funeral service will be held at Evans Parkville on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11:30 AM with the burial immediately following the services at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, Maryland 21117.
**Anyone attending the burial must arrive no earlier than 12:45 PM at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. The burial is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Any attendees must stay in their vehicles until the burial is complete. **
