Dr. Murli Narain Mathur, 84, of Fallston, MD. passed away surrounded by his loving family.
Dr. Murli Narain Mathur was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan on Dec. 07, 1935. He was the youngest of three brothers, Prahlad Narain and Kailash Narain, all born to Swarup Narain Mathur and Pyar Bai Mathur. He was always a sharp student and he became a medical doctor via his own qualifications very quickly. He married his wife Kamlesh in 1962, moved to Udaipur, and later welcomed his first daughter, Kamini. He served as an elite Medical Officer in the Indian Railways, managing many responsibilities including the Mavli train station outside Udaipur. After several years in the railways, he emigrated to the US in 1969, after which his second daughter Rita was born. He very quickly went through all the medical qualification processes to start practicing medicine. After training in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan areas, he moved to Fallston, MD in 1974, and became affiliated with Fallston General Hospital.
In Fallston he became a very popular and well-established physician, specializing in oncology and later in bariatric medicine. He was honored by the hospital, and later practiced on his own for many years. Even until a few years ago, he continued his practice on a part-time basis from his home.
His main hobbies were music and travel; his love of music started in high school when he learned how to sing and play the harmonium, which he continued to do until recently. He and his wife hosted innumerable music parties in their home, which were eagerly anticipated by many regular attendees in the Baltimore/Washington area. During those illustrious evenings, there were many a guest artiste, spontaneous dances, and an extensive variety of relished delicious dishes.
His travel interests took him all around the world, into Asia, South America, and Europe. He went on land trips, river cruises, international cruises, and group excursions. He travelled with his wife, friends, and relatives.
Above all, Dr. Mathur’s most memorable qualities were his loyalty, compassion, consideration and kindness. In addition, he had a positive, humorous and joyous personality. As a result, he was loved by everyone, young and old alike, and thus became a very popular person in the Belair/Perry Hall/Fallston area. To this day, everyone fondly remembers his friendship, love and service to the community.
Dr. Mathur is survived by his wife Kamlesh; sister-in-law Rashmi (Kailash); daughter Kamini and son-in-law Hamendra; daughter Rita and son-in-law Mohit; and grandchildren Puja (Jeffrey), Nikhil and Akhil.
