Dorothy Maurer Obituary

Dorothy Brandt Maurer, 85, of Bel Air, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2021. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Jackie Maurer. She was born on October 27, 1935 in Hershey, PA, the daughter of the late Wayne L. and Esther C. Brandt.

She is survived by her three children, Tambria (Tammy) Harward (Wally), Joel Maurer (Joann), and Terryl (Gig) Manning (Steve); her six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 5 step great-grandchildren. Her family was the joy of her life in which she was affectionately known as Mee-Maw and made custom Christmas stockings for each member. 

In addition she was survived by her siblings Geraldine Scheidler, William Brandt, Richard Brandt, Benjamin Brandt, and Larry Brandt. 

Dottie was a 1953 graduate of Hershey High School and a 1972 graduate of Harford Community College where she received her Associates Degree in Interior Design. She used her talent as a Professional Designer while working at local framing shops. 

She served on the Bel Air Recreation Committee as a Director of the Lads & Lasses. Dottie was on the Bel Air Appearance and Beautification Committee where she was recognized as “One of Harford County’s Most Beautiful People.” She was the Queen of the Mason Dixon Red Hatter’s Society from 2003 until her passing. Dottie was a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. 

Dottie enjoyed birdwatching, gardening and her card ministry. Her family and friends will miss receiving her “Just Because” and “Thinking of You” cards.  She also loved the family’s vacations to Stone Harbor, NJ and Potter County, PA.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Dottie's life at the Evans Life Celebration Home-Bel Air, 3 Newport Drive (Rt. 23 & Rt. 24), Forest Hill on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 P.M. with a Service beginning at 1:00 PM. Entombment Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
