On June 4, 2023, Alice Margaret “Peggy” Dealy was born in Pottsville, PA in 1929 to Edna Schwartz and Dallas Haetter Helwig. They moved to Philadelphia when she was starting Jr. High School-where she met her future husband, Robert Edward Dealy, who predeceased her. They were married in 1949 and set off cross country by bus to his Army duty assignment in Alaska where their son, Arthur David Dealy was born. They next went to Virginia where daughter, Ann Denise Dealy was born. Robert’s military service also took the family to Indiana, Panama, and Maryland.
Peggy was a homemaker and constant volunteer-Army Community Services, church women, Sunday & Bible school teacher, Girl Scout leader and longtime Kindergarten “mom”-where every year she sewed each child a book bag. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing her children’s and her own clothes and reupholstering sofas and making slipcovers. Her home was always a warm, comforting, and spotlessly clean place where everyone was welcome.
She was the quintessential mother, beloved by many as their second mother, grandmother. In addition to her children, she is survived by grandchildren Mark Winkler, Dana Dealy-Reid (Michael), Robert E. Dealy, II. (Bobbie) and Brenda Kilhoffer (Rodney); 6 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
Donations in her memory can be made to St. John’s Cupboard; PO Box 306; Havre De Grace, Maryland 21078. A private interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
