December 27, 1949 ~ June 16, 2019 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Joseph Kurek Obituary

On Sunday, June 16, 2019 with family by his side, Joe entered his well-deserved eternal rest to be with his Lord and loved ones that went before him, to include his faithful sidekick, Bert the Rottweiler.

Faithful husband to Katie Kurek, devoted father and ‘teammate’ to Shannon Gettier (Jay Greene). Joe is survived by his loving sisters, Mary Moore, Julia Mullins (Duane) and dear brothers, John Kurek, Stephen Kurek (Penny) and Peter Kurek, and brother in law Tom Jordan.  Joe is survived by many, many (many) nieces and nephews whom he held dear to his heart. Loving family who entered heaven before Joe: Parents; Joseph F. Kurek and Erma Rose Kurek (nee Harbaugh), brothers Bill, Thomas and Phillip.

In addition to operating his own concrete company for many years, Joe’s career started and ended with Precision Concrete Construction whose ownership and longtime employees; including Martin S. who he considers an extension of his own family.

Nicknamed “St. Joseph”- Joe enjoyed working in his wood shop creating custom furniture for his friends, family and beloved farm house. Joe proudly served God, his country and family with quiet devotion and strength, and will remain in our hearts forever.

Family and friends will honor & celebrate Joe’s life at the Evans Life Celebration Home – Bel Air, 3 Newport Drive (Rt. 23 & Rt. 24), Forest Hill on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Vigil Service will be begin at 3 PM.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM at St. Ignatius Historic Catholic Church- Hickory on Saturday, June 22, 2019.  Interment St. Ignatius Catholic Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Joe including Gina Tyler, Mary, Maggie, Faustina and the entire Care staff of Gilchrest Hospice and Griswold Home Care. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to America’s Vet Dogs or a Veterans Charity of your choice.
