Jennie "Bea" Gray
(December 14, 1921 - May 19, 2012)
Jennie “Bea” Gray died on May 19th, 2012, from complications of pneumonia after a hospital stay for a broken hip. She was 90 years old. A longtime resident of Harford County, she was born in Bandy, Virginia, lived in Towson when her family was young, and retired to Daytona, Florida in 1990. After the death of her husband, Marshall in 1999, she returned to Harford County to be near family.
When her children were young, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Other jobs included working at the Supervisors of Elections Board, 4H extension office, and as a hostess for Georgetown North when it opened. She was noted for her cheesecake there. Bea was a lifelong member of Babcock Memorial Presbyterian Church in Towson, Maryland. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Jourdan of Forest Hill, and Carolyn’s children, Lori and Cary Jourdan, and Cary’s children, Farah and Fin; Her son Dr. David L. Gray Lives in Mobile, Alabama with his wife, Toni, and their three children, Jason, Ryan, and Christopher Gray. Ryan has a son, William. Of 13 brothers and sisters, Kate Dewberry of Richmond, Virginia, survives her. Bea was kind and generous. Whether you stopped in for one of her famous home cooked meals or she visited you, she had a gift for you. She loved flowers, ALL children, and a good laugh. She will be sorely missed. Family and friends will honor Bea’s life at the family owned Evans Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services – Bel Air, 3 Newport Drive (Rts. 23 & 24 – Forest Hill) on Thursday, May 24, from 3-5 & 7-9, and Friday from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. at the Oak Crest Village Chapel, 8820 Walther Blvd, Parkville, where a funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m.. Services will be presided over by her beloved pastors, John Hamilton from Pittsburg, PA, and Harry Cahill. Interment will follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
