Mrs. Louise Ligon Kirby died peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at her home in Baltimore, MD. She was 98.
Born in Baltimore, MD, August 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William D. Ligon, Jr, and the late Anne de la Tour Ligon both of Lynchburg, VA. She was the sister of the late Juliette Ligon Bryan, the late Marguerite “Peggy” Ligon Page, the late William D. Ligon III, and the late Therese Ligon Mills.
Mrs. Kirby was married in 1933 to the late William Armstrong Kirby, Jr, of Waverly Farm, Trappe, MD. Waverly Farm was her primary residence until 1990. She began her career during WW II working as a secretary for the Navy Department. In 1990, she left federal service as a program analyst with the Public Health Service.
Mrs. Kirby graduated in 1978 from the George Washington University receiving a B.A. degree in general studies of Sociology.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Ligon Nalley, her grandson, Thomas Alexander Nalley, both of Frederick, MD, her niece, Peggy Fox of Cockeysville, MD, and her nephew, James Wallace Bryan, Jr, of Ocean View, DE.
A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Kirby’s life will be announced at a future date. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton, MD.
