John B. Limmer, Jr.

U.S. Veteran

John B. Limmer, Jr., 78, walked peacefully into the arms of Our Lord while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Born on June 29, 1933, he was married to his devoted wife, Miriam R. Kolarik for 57 years. Known to his many friends as Bernie or “The Coupon Man”, they had three children, five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed. Bern joined the Army under the 69th Ordinance Company and served his Country in the Korean War from 1953-1955. He proudly earned the National Defense Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal, The Army Good Conduct Medal, The Korean Service Medal and the Korean Defense Service Medal. He then worked for Western Electric for 30 years retiring at the age of 52. He loved his family more than anything in life. He liked to fish, hunt and spend time in his garage. He then discovered the benefits of couponing and was well loved by many friends he met at the grocery stores. He liked to donate much of what he bought to the underprivileged with his kind and giving heart. He was such a character; he left lasting impressions on everyone he met! He is survived by Donna Sheets and husband Jerry of Charlestown, Michael E. Limmer and wife Linda of Whiteford, and John B. Limmer, III also of Charlestown. Grandchildren are Jennifer N. Greene, Angela M. Gates, Michele L. Limmer and Michael E. Limmer, Jr. and Tyler L. Sheets . He loved the innocence of his great grandchildren, Hannah M. Gates, Caleb M. Gates and Kamber Kalia-Marie Rehm. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Fletcher and husband Donnie, and brothers, Charles L. Limmer and wife Lorraine and Robert E. Limmer and wife Linda Lee. Predeceased are his parents Mary A. Hessler and John B. Limmer and his sister Jean Lewis. A Memorial Service in his memory will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Hickory, MD. at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bern’s memory may be made to St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 533 E. Jarrettsville, MD 21050.
